Young Carers Days Out Appeal

Updated 11/11/23

Amount Raised £4,735  | Target £5,000

Why we need your help

The South Devon AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is running a week of activities for 60 Young Carers in June 2021. These days out on the beautiful coast of South Devon picnicking, exploring, playing and having a go at activities including canoeing, surfing and snorkelling will create brilliant memories for them.

A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps to look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, drug or alcohol problem. As you can imagine, they have a tough time. They richly deserve recognition for the amazing work they do for their families.

The Island Trust is going to give some of them a day’s sailing experience through its Ocean Discoverability programme. The cost, £1,000, is beyond the AONB’s resources, and the funds The Island Trust receives for Ocean Discoverability trips are for disabled children, so we need to find extra funding for this day, which is where you can help. Whether great or small, your donation will help us to raise the much needed funds to give these deserving young people an awe-inspiring day out on the water on Pilot Cutter Pegasus.

Anything raised over the £1,000 required will be used within the Ocean Discoverability programme.

  • £10 will buy I-spy booklets and marine life resources for two young people on these trips.
  • £60 a life jacket.
  • £1,000 will give a group of 9 an Ocean Discoverability day sail experience.
