Adult voyages and day sails
Step aboard and experience the freedom of life at sea on one of our adult sailing holidays or day sails. Every so often, when our youth sailing programme allows, we offer a small number of coastal voyages, day sails and sailing and wild swimming adventures for adults, aboard our traditionally rigged vessels, topsail schooner Johanna Lucretia and gaff yawl Moosk. From hoisting sails and anchoring to navigation and taking the helm, guests are actively involved in every aspect of running the vessel. It’s a hands‑on, immersive way to sail and a rare opportunity to experience a beautifully crafted traditional wooden ship.
Our voyages typically start and finish in Plymouth, unless otherwise stated, and are delivered in line with the RYA Cruising syllabus.
Prices include the use of waterproofs and safety equipment, with accommodation and all meals provided for overnight voyages.
Adult RYA Courses
If you are looking to gain qualifications or build confidence at sea, we are a recognised RYA Training Centre and also deliver a range of Adult RYA courses throughout the sailing season aboard our traditionally rigged gaff yawl, Moosk. These include Competent Crew, Day Skipper Practical, Coastal Skipper Practical, and Yachtmaster Preparation and Exam. Or, if your aim is to build sea miles, increase confidence, and hone your sailing skills, you are welcome to join any suitable course for focused mile building while sailing in varied conditions and real passages.

Sailing in the magnificent waters along the south Devon and south Cornwall coast, sailing east or west depending on the weather conditions, there are plenty of hidden coves, tiny islands and harbours with places to fish, swim, visit beaches and have barbecues.
**Our expected arrival time in Plymouth is not guaranteed and is weather and sea conditions dependent. To allow for a later arrival we recommend making flexible onward travel plans.
We strongly advise that you take out suitable travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday, that provides cover in the event of cancellation, loss or damage to baggage, additional medical or transport costs.
All the above voyages are suitable for mile building.
No previous sailing experience is necessary, our professional sailing staff will coach you every step of the way.

All voyages and day sails are operated by The Island Trust’s trading subsidiary Island (Cutter) Ltd.
Your safety on board
Crewed by professional sailing staff, qualified at the highest level, all of our vessels have been coded by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and inspected for seaworthiness and safety.
The Island Trust and its operating company, Island (Cutter) Ltd, have robust policies and procedures in place to guarantee your safety on board including:
- Health and Safety Policies
- Valid DBS Disclosure for all staff and volunteers
Full time and relief skippers are RYA Yachtmasters and Cruising Instructors or higher, and mates and volunteers are qualified to levels appropriate to the responsibilities they carry in accordance with statutory MCA and RYA regulations and guidelines.
